Minute Timer FAQ

What is a minute timer?

A minute timer counts down a set number of minutes and tells you when time is up. This one runs in your browser with no installation.

How do I set a timer for 5 minutes?

Tap the 5 min preset to start immediately. Or enter 5 in the Minutes field and press Start.

Does the timer make a sound?

The shared sound settings in the header control the alarm for every tool. Choose a ringtone, test it, and set the volume there. Select Silent for a visual-only reminder. Browser sound settings still apply.

What can I change in the settings at the top right?

Click the gear button at the top right to choose an alarm sound, start or stop a preview, and adjust the volume. Select Silent to turn off reminder sounds. You can also change the timer digit color and switch between Standard and Digital fonts. Sound settings apply to all alarms and timers; digit styles apply across tool pages, including full-screen displays. Your choices are saved in this browser, kept when you switch tools or refresh, and synced to other tabs in the same browser.

Can I use the minute timer on my phone?

Yes. The controls fit small screens. Full screen is available where your browser supports it.

Can I set a timer for more than 60 minutes?

Yes. Enter a whole number from 1 to 999 minutes in the Minutes field.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no signup, download, or limit on the number of countdowns you can start.

Can I run it in the background?

The timer calculates remaining time from its deadline, so it catches up when you return to the tab. Browsers may delay background updates or block sound. Keep the tab open and your device awake; a sleeping device cannot reliably sound an alarm.
